Femto-LASIK

EuroEyes Femto-LASIK is one of the most advanced and safest laser eye methods to correct astigmatism, myopia or hyperopia. The actual laser treatment takes only a few seconds per eye, and most patients achieve full visual acuity as early as the next day – for a completely new quality of life within the shortest time.

Timeline of your Femto-LASIK treatment

We guide you step by step through the timeline of your laser eye treatment so you know exactly what to expect. From the initial eye check to the actual procedure and the follow-up – here you will find all the important information to be well prepared and feel confident.

Preliminary and main examination

After your initial eye check, the main examination follows. Please note that you must not wear contact lenses for four days beforehand, and during the appointment you will receive eye drops that will affect your vision for a few hours. Afterwards, you will not be able to actively participate in road traffic. In the main examination, your visual acuity, cornea and the back of your eye are checked in order to determine the best treatment method for you.

Procedure and course of the treatment

At the third appointment, your treatment with the Femto-LASIK method is performed. First, your eyes are numbed with eye drops and fixed in place with an eyelid holder. A femtosecond laser creates a flap in the cornea to access the underlying layer and correct the refractive error. The flap is then folded back and serves as a natural protective lens. Please allow about one hour for the entire appointment.

Possible symptoms

Immediately after the treatment, you may be sensitive to light and experience red eyes as well as a foreign-body sensation. Other symptoms may include hazy vision, watery, dry, burning or swollen eyes, as well as temporarily fluctuating vision. It is recommended to wear sunglasses as protection against glare and foreign bodies.

First follow-up

The first follow-up takes place the next day. This is the first time your vision without visual aids is checked after the laser treatment. Usually, the confirmation for the road traffic authority can also be issued at this point. In principle, you can then return to your normal daily activities.

Second follow-up

Your second follow-up takes place after one week. By this time, with Femto-LASIK, you have often already achieved full visual performance and usually no longer experience major side effects. Please continue to follow the hygiene measures and use the eye drops according to your prescribed schedule.

Back to everyday life

Swimming, sports and sauna are allowed again, as well as wearing make-up around the eyes. If you have any concerns or questions, you can contact us at any time.

Final follow-up

After about two months, a final follow-up takes place to check your visual performance and to monitor and ensure the optimal long-term healing process of the eye.

The advantages of Femto-LASIK

100% vision in the shortest time

Treatment with Femto-LASIK enables improved vision in the shortest possible time: most patients achieve nearly full visual acuity as early as the next day.

Treatment in just 15 minutes

The laser works on the eye for only a few seconds, so the actual treatment takes less than 15 minutes – quick and painless.

Completely painless

Before the procedure, your eyes are numbed with eye drops. You will not feel any pain during the treatment itself or throughout the healing process.

Safe and precise

The treatment with the laser is contact-free, providing maximum safety and precision. If the eye moves, the device immediately and automatically stops.

Ready for action the next day

Femto-LASIK allows for rapid healing. Most patients can return to work and drive a car as early as the next day.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Here you will find the most important questions and answers about laser eye and lens treatments at EuroEyes. If you have any further questions or need additional information, please feel free to contact us.

What is the difference between Femto-LASIK and LASIK?

Femto-LASIK is an advancement of LASIK. While LASIK creates the so-called flap in the cornea with a blade, Femto-LASIK uses a highly precise femtosecond laser for this step. With Femto-LASIK, the cornea is therefore treated exclusively with the laser and completely touch-free.

What side effects can occur after the treatment?

A Femto-LASIK treatment is quick and painless. However, temporary side effects may occur after the procedure: slightly blurred vision is quite normal, and any feeling of dryness is treated with eye drops prescribed by us.

What are the limitations of Femto-LASIK?

A laser eye treatment with Femto-LASIK is extremely safe and has a very low risk of complications, but it is not suitable for everyone. For example, if your cornea is too thin or you suffer from very dry eyes, this method may not be an option for you. An alternative procedure could then be a lens implantation.

How long do the results of Femto-LASIK last?

The results of a Femto-LASIK treatment are permanent and last a lifetime. However, the treatment does not protect against presbyopia, where the elasticity of the lens decreases with age, typically from the age of 45. Presbyopia can be corrected with visual aids or, alternatively, permanently with a refractive lens exchange.

How long does recovery take after Femto-LASIK?

Most patients are able to work and drive again the very next day. With Femto-LASIK, the uppermost layer of the cornea is not removed but a small flap is created and temporarily folded aside – this so-called flap naturally reattaches itself after the treatment. Recovery is therefore quick, and many achieve almost 100% vision as early as the next day.

Is the Femto-LASIK method really painless?

A laser eye treatment with Femto-LASIK does not cause pain. Before the procedure, your eyes are numbed with eye drops. The laser creates a small flap in the uppermost layer of the cornea, which is then folded aside. The now exposed corneal layer is corrected with the laser. The flap then reattaches itself naturally, allowing the eyes to heal quickly and usually without pain.

How much does a Femto-LASIK treatment cost?

The cost of a Femto-LASIK treatment varies depending on the provider. At EuroEyes, the treatment costs CHF 1,890 per eye. Unlike most other providers, this price is all-inclusive, so there are no unexpected additional costs. Payment in instalments is also possible.

What are the most common risks of laser eye treatment?

Laser eye surgery is a very safe way to correct refractive errors, but like any medical procedure, it also carries some risks. The most common include:

  • Dry eyes

  • Fluctuations in vision

  • Overcorrection or undercorrection

  • Infections

  • Regression

In most cases, the complications described can be corrected with follow-up treatment.
