How does Femto-LASIK work?

In Femto-LASIK, a so-called “flap” (a thin corneal layer) is created and gently lifted to precisely correct the refractive error in the underlying layer of the cornea.

Anaesthesia

Treatment
First, the flap is prepared with the laser and gently lifted. The laser then corrects your refractive error within seconds. The flap is placed back into position and serves as a natural protective bandage.

What is the difference between Femto-LASIK and LASIK?
Femto-LASIK is the modern and safer advancement of the classic LASIK procedure. While traditional LASIK creates the “flap” mechanically with a blade, Femto-LASIK uses a highly precise laser for this step. The treatment is therefore completely contact-free, which increases precision and speeds up healing.
What side effects may occur after the treatment?
Femto-LASIK is a very safe procedure. Immediately after the treatment, slightly blurred vision is completely normal. Occasionally, a temporary feeling of dryness may occur, which can easily be treated with the eye drops we prescribe. These effects usually subside quickly.
When is Femto-LASIK not suitable?
Although Femto-LASIK is extremely safe, it is not suitable for every eye. In cases of a very thin cornea or extremely dry eyes, an alternative procedure may be more appropriate. In such cases, we offer excellent and gentle alternatives such as SMILE Pro or lens implantation (ICL) to achieve clear vision without glasses.
How long do the results of Femto-LASIK last?
The correction of your refractive error with Femto-LASIK is permanent, as the corneal tissue is precisely and permanently reshaped. However, the procedure does not prevent the natural development of presbyopia from around the age of 45. This can later be corrected with multifocal lenses or PRESBYOND.
How long does healing take after Femto-LASIK?
Healing after Femto-LASIK is particularly fast because the created flap acts like a natural protective bandage and grows back into place. Most patients achieve nearly 100% of their vision as early as the next day and can easily return to work or driving.
Is the Femto-LASIK method really painless?
Laser eye surgery with Femto-LASIK does not cause pain. Before the procedure, your eyes are numbed with eye drops. As the flap naturally reattaches after the treatment, the eyes heal quickly and usually without discomfort.
