Modern & gentle laser eye surgery
SMILE Pro
SMILE Pro is the gentlest and most advanced laser eye method. This innovative treatment is a further development of ReLEx SMILE and Femto-LASIK. The minimally invasive procedure is suitable for correcting myopia and astigmatism. Professor Dan Reinstein, a physician on the EuroEyes Medical Board, played a key role in the development of SMILE laser surgery.
Timeline of your SMILE Pro treatment
Step by step, we explain how your SMILE Pro treatment at EuroEyes works. From the initial free eye check to the procedure itself, through to potential side effects and the recommended guidelines for an optimal healing process.
Eye check and main examination
After a free and non-binding eye check, the main examination follows. It is important that you refrain from wearing contact lenses for four days before the appointment and that you do not drive to the appointment. During the examinations, you will receive eye drops that may impair your vision for a few hours. Therefore, you must not actively participate in road traffic. The main examination takes 45 minutes: we check your visual acuity, cornea and retina to ensure that SMILE Pro is the treatment method best suited for you.
Procedure and treatment process
The third appointment at EuroEyes is your treatment. Your eyes will be numbed with eye drops, the eye area disinfected, and you will be prepared for the procedure. The eyes are fixed with lid holders and then treated with the femtosecond laser. The laser creates a small opening and a thin corneal lens, the so-called lenticule. Through the opening, the surgeon then removes this loose corneal lens. SMILE Pro is a minimally invasive treatment method. Plan around one hour for the entire appointment.
Possible symptoms
Immediately after the treatment, it is normal for your eyes to be sensitive to light, appear red, or feel like there is a foreign body. Other possible symptoms include hazy vision, watery, dry or burning eyes, as well as temporarily fluctuating visual acuity during the first 2–3 days. It is therefore recommended to wear sunglasses on your way home as protection against glare and foreign bodies.
First follow-up examination
Four days after the treatment, your visual acuity without visual aids will be checked during the first follow-up. In most cases, you will have already regained almost full vision at this point, and the certificate for the Road Traffic Office can be issued. You can generally return to your normal daily activities. Please continue to follow the hygiene measures and use the prescribed eye drops according to your drop schedule.
Second follow-up and return to normal daily life
Two weeks after the treatment, the second follow-up takes place. With SMILE Pro as the treatment method, you will usually have already reached full visual acuity by then and will no longer experience any significant side effects. After these two

Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose EuroEyes for my laser eye or lens treatment?
For over 30 years, EuroEyes has stood for the highest medical expertise and operates renowned eye clinics in London, Copenhagen, Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg, Hong Kong and Shanghai. EuroEyes is among the world’s leading providers in refractive laser eye surgery, the treatment of presbyopia, as well as modern procedures for cataract correction. Medical responsibility at EuroEyes lies with two internationally recognised experts: Dr. Jørn Jørgensen and Professor Dan Reinstein. Both are among the most experienced specialists in refractive surgery and have played a key role in its development.
What is the difference between ReLEX SMILE, ReLEx SMILE Pro and SMILE Pro?
ReLEx SMILE is a laser eye treatment method. SMILE Pro – also referred to as ReLEx SMILE Pro – is the faster, more precise and safer advancement of ReLEx SMILE. The procedure is carried out exclusively with the Zeiss Visumax 800 femtosecond laser. With the laser, a thin disc of corneal tissue, the so-called lenticule, is processed to correct the existing refractive error.
What makes SMILE Pro different compared to other laser eye methods?
While Femto-LASIK creates a flap, SMILE Pro uses a small incision of no more than two to three millimetres. The method is therefore particularly gentle and even suitable for people with thinner corneas or dry eyes.
What are possible side effects of the SMILE Pro method?
Possible side effects of a SMILE Pro treatment, as with any other refractive surgery, include temporarily hazy vision in the first hours, increased light sensitivity and dry eyes in the first days after the procedure.
How long does SMILE Pro last?
As a rule, a SMILE Pro treatment, like any other laser eye procedure, is permanent. However, laser eye surgery does not prevent presbyopia – this can be corrected with a refractive lens exchange.
When can I expect full vision?
In the following days you will already experience significantly improved vision and reach about 80% of your visual acuity. In principle, once you have received the certificate for the road traffic authority, you can already participate in road traffic again. Full visual acuity is usually achieved about 3–4 days after the treatment.
When is SMILE Pro not possible?
SMILE Pro is not suitable for people with hyperopia or presbyopia. As an alternative for hyperopia, Femto-LASIK treatment is available. Presbyopia can be corrected with a refractive lens exchange.
What should be considered after a SMILE Pro treatment?
After a SMILE Pro laser eye treatment, it is important to attend the scheduled follow-up appointments, follow the recommended afterc

A SMILE Pro treatment at EuroEyes costs CHF 2,590 per eye. All follow-up appointments are included in the fixed price. The treatment can be paid in instalments over a period of up to 36 months – with an annual interest rate of 10.95%.
